What CE do you need to renew?
TREC requires licensees to complete a total of 16 hours of continuing education every license term, including a mandatory 6-hour TREC Core class. Here's how it breaks down by license type.

Standard renewal requirements
Mandatory every renewal cycle — covers TN real estate law, rule & policy updates
Any TREC-approved real estate courses of your choice
Must be completed before license expiration date
CE must be completed before your license expiration date. All CE must be loaded into the CE Broker system by the sponsor within 10 business days of course completion.
Broker — First Renewal
Additional post-license education required
Required for brokers within the first 3 years of licensure
During the 3-year post-license period, standard 16-hour CE renewal is not required
Brokers must complete 120 hours of post-license education during the first three years of being licensed. After that initial period, standard 16-hour CE renewal applies each cycle.
If 120 hours are not completed within 3 years, a $50/month fee accrues. After year 4, the broker must downgrade or reapply.

Follow these steps to ensure a smooth, on-time renewal every cycle.
Complete your CE early
Don’t wait until the last minute. Complete all 16 CE hours — including the mandatory 6-hour TREC Core — well before your expiration date to allow time for reporting.
Verify CE in CE Broker
TREC partners with CE Broker as the official CE tracking system. Log in to confirm all hours are reported by your course provider before renewing.
Renew online with TREC
Log in to your TREC account at the TN CORE online licensing system to submit your renewal application and pay the renewal fee.
Confirm active status
After renewal, verify your license is showing as active in TREC’s public licensee lookup. Notify your broker and update any relevant profiles.

Late renewal penalties
Failing to renew your license on time results in monthly late penalties that add up quickly. TREC posts monthly late penalties of $50 per month for the first 120 days and $100 per month for days 121–365. Beyond that, reinstatement requirements increase significantly.
